The Post Where My Worlds Collide: Chicago Edition

This week I’m in Chicago at the International Reading Association’s 57th Annual Convention.

IRA 2012 Chicago

Two of my favorite things are combined: Reading and Education!

I don’t usually mix my two social media personalities, but this week Books and Bling and on Literacy Everywhere are mixing together in an epic pairing of awesome!

Yesterday, Schmoopy and I took a LONG WALK to see where Merit of the Chicgoland Vampire books lives-Go Cadogan!. Chloe Neill even posted my pic on her blog!

Cadogan House!

This morning, I got to see Dr. Steve Perry speak. He was really inspiring!

Then I met Michael Buckley and he loved the Bling! I’m a huge fan of his NERDS series! He is just as awesome in person as I thought he’d be!

Awesome NERDS Signed Copy Bling! YAY!

Next, I heard Nick Bruel speak and got him to sign some Bad Kitty books for me. I even snagged one of his Bad Kitty drawings from his presentation. AWESOME!

Basically, I’m learning tons and fangirling my way through this awesome town! Well, we’re eating a ton of great food, too! Chicago is super yummy!

Bling Worthy Books now on Tumblr!

Check out my list of awesomely Bling Worthy Books on Tumblr. I’ll keep adding to the list. It’s super easy and fun!

Basically, this is an epic list of books that I think are worthy of major Bling!

Do you have a Bling Worthy Book to suggest? I’d love to hear about it!

*Full Disclosure! These are all books that I've read or that books that I've heard amazing things about and REALLY want to read. If you'd like to buy one of these books for me, that would ROCK! Also, as part of the Amazon Affiliate program, if you decide to purchase the books through my links I'll get compensated from Amazon (assuming I set it up correctly...who knows!). I'll use that $ to maintain this blog, buy more books, and run contests.

More Mandee Monday #2: The Story of two girls!

Happy Monday!

Today for MMM! I’m going to tell you two quick stories.

Story of a Girl by Sara Zarr

The first is about my awesome friend. She put this book in my hands this morning at 6:45 (early book bliss!) as soon as I walked into school. She knew I wanted to read it, so she’s letting me read it before she does. That ROCKS!

The second is about the book Story of a Girl by Sara Zarr. I’ve been dying to read this story of a girl who gets branded as “the school slut” and her journey to escape that awful title. As a middle school teacher, I see these things happen all the time. And my heart breaks for those kids who get slammed with labels that are so cruel and so hard to shake. I cannot wait to dive into this story, even though I know my heart will hurt while I’m reading.

What are you reading this week?

Free eBooks (FREE!) from Free Par-tay! YAY!

Free Par-tay (isn’t that a fun name!) has FREE eBooks for March Lucky Days!

How awesome! http://www.freepartay.com/

In June, they run a super fun Blog Tour de Force Cage Match, which you should also check out!

So fun, right?!

Go get those free books! They have everything from Romance to Zombies, to Paranormal, to YA!

Free is always better! =)

Have an awesome day!

Challenge Time: Chick Loves Lit’s Completely Contemp Challenge 2012 #CCC

I’m totally into Reading Challenges this year! I think you should be, too!

I’ve signed up for the AWESOME Chick Loves Lit’s Completely Contemp Challenge 2012.

The challenge is to read books from 2010, 2011, & 2012.  It will help cut down my TBR piles from past years a bit & still read all of the exciting books being released in 2012!

I’m planning to read 25 books towards this challenge, but I bet I will end up reading more.

My personal goal for 2012 is to read 112 books! (1oo+the current year=math even I can handle!).

This is a total Book-Win-Win Situation!

Here is the beautiful challenge Banner! I hope you join me in this super cool Contemp Challenge!!

Ordered Cinder by Marissa Meyer! Thank you @Parajunkee!

Today I am IMPATIENT!

I can’t wait to read Melissa Meyer’s Cinder.

Cinder by Marissa Meyer

I’ve been on the waiting list at the public library for a while. I’m trying to be patient!

Alas, Patience and Mandee just don’t mix!

Today I read the super awesome review by  Parajunkee’s (read it here) and decided that I just cannot wait another second (well, maybe a day or two until the box arrives!).

Also, if you aren’t reading Parajunkee’s blog…well, start right now-I’ll wait!

You can read the first 5 chapters here free  (but don’t do it if you have no patience!)

So excited for some awesome Cinder Bling!

Maybe we will just file this under Don’t Tell Schmoopy!

Follow Friday from @parajunkee & @alisoncanread

I have found so many awesome blogs and added some AMAZING books to my (ginormous) TBR pile by participating in Follow My Book Blog Friday! Parajunkee & Alison Can Read totally ROCK for hosting!

This week’s question is:

Go count the number of unread books sitting on your shelf. How many?

My answer: UGH! Too many. I’d have to go into my super secret hiding places & really fess up if I were to give an accurate number. Let’s just say Schmoopy would not be amused! And I’m not even going to think about the huge number of books on my iPad or audio books that I’ve got or the number of books that I’ve requested from the library! OMG, or the number of to-read books on Goodreads! Double UGH!

I’m going with over 100 and just leaving it at that! (I know I kinda cheated!!)

Today I am…trying something new! Follow My Book Blog Friday! Sounds super fun!

I’m totally confused, but I’m just going for it!
Two of my fave book bloggers, Parajunkee and Alison Can Read host this weekly Feature & Follow.

I’m jumping right in this week!

The question of the week is:

When you’ve read a book, what do you do with it? (Keep it, give it away, donate it, sell it, swap it..?)

Since I’m a teacher, I usually end up bringing the books I read to school. I read mostly YA & MG. Almost everything I read is OK for middle schoolers. When I really love a book, I will keep a copy and buy another for my classroom. I visit the libraries at least once a week, too. So I have to give those back!

What do you do when you finish a book?

I hope you join me by clicking away and checking out all of these great Book Bloggers!

Clockwork Prince Bling! Also, a WITHER movie…yup! Totally happening! @cassieclare & @LaurenDeStefano ROCK!

Wow! I have been glued to Clockwork Prince & loving it! It is so awesome! Cassandra Clare totally rocks!

I really considered taking a day off from work to stay in bed and read.  I didn’t…but I really wanted to!!
I was hooked from the first words. I have to drag myself away from it in the mornings to get to work. Schmoopy has pulled it off of my sleeping face several times when I’ve been up too late reading it!
