Follow Friday from @parajunkee & @alisoncanread

I have found so many awesome blogs and added some AMAZING books to my (ginormous) TBR pile by participating in Follow My Book Blog Friday! Parajunkee & Alison Can Read totally ROCK for hosting!

This week’s question is:

Go count the number of unread books sitting on your shelf. How many?

My answer: UGH! Too many. I’d have to go into my super secret hiding places & really fess up if I were to give an accurate number. Let’s just say Schmoopy would not be amused! And I’m not even going to think about the huge number of books on my iPad or audio books that I’ve got or the number of books that I’ve requested from the library! OMG, or the number of to-read books on Goodreads! Double UGH!

I’m going with over 100 and just leaving it at that! (I know I kinda cheated!!)

Speculative Fiction Challenge 2012 @BaffledBooks – Count me in!

Lisa at Baffled Books is hosting the Speculative Fiction Challenge for 2012.

Speculative Fiction Challenge 2012

I read a lot of Dystopian, Sci-Fi, & Fantasy. So, I figured I’d just go for it!

This year I decided to set a yearly goal to read 100 books + the year.

So, in 2011 I read 111 books.

In 2012, my goal will be 112 books.

With this in mind, I am going to pledge to read at the Nirvana Level of the Speculative Fiction Challenge. This is 24 novels. I have a feeling that I will probably end up in the Obsessed range (48 Speculative Fiction novels).

Why don’t you join me?!

Today I am…trying something new! Follow My Book Blog Friday! Sounds super fun!

I’m totally confused, but I’m just going for it!
Two of my fave book bloggers, Parajunkee and Alison Can Read host this weekly Feature & Follow.

I’m jumping right in this week!

The question of the week is:

When you’ve read a book, what do you do with it? (Keep it, give it away, donate it, sell it, swap it..?)

Since I’m a teacher, I usually end up bringing the books I read to school. I read mostly YA & MG. Almost everything I read is OK for middle schoolers. When I really love a book, I will keep a copy and buy another for my classroom. I visit the libraries at least once a week, too. So I have to give those back!

What do you do when you finish a book?

I hope you join me by clicking away and checking out all of these great Book Bloggers!

What I’ve Been Reading & Loving or The End of My Reading Slump!

I was in a reading slump this summer. I don’t know why–I usually read like crazy all summer.  It was hard to book blog when I wasn’t reading (duh!).

Thankfully, that is behind me now! I’ve been reading some amazing books (and a few that were just ok). Here’s a quick pic post of what I’ve been reading and loving lately! Check them out, they are all 5 Bling Books (well, not the WordPress Books).

Quite possibly the reason why I quit reading good books! Not too many Blings here!

Swamplandia! by Karen Russell totally ROCKS!

Swamplandia!

I am LOVING this strange & beautiful story from Karen Russell. I can’t really describe it yet, other than to tell you that there is a sister who loves dead people, a brother who runs away to join the World of Darkness, and a girl who wants to become a champion alligator wrestler just like her dearly departed mom. Dad and Grandpa are a total mess, too.

I’m am totally 100% sure that my love for this unusually odd book grows with every unusual page I turn.

Awesome Contest from A. S. King or True Confessions of a Typo-Queen!

I really should know better, but I really should a lot of things…

Yesterday, I got super excited about the upcoming release of the new A. S. King book EVERYBODY SEES THE ANTS, which comes out on October 3.              A. S. King really is my favorite YA author. I wanted her to know how excited I was! She wrote the amazing THE DUST OF 100 DOGS and PLEASE IGNORE VERA DIETZ. Both are totally worthy of all 5 Blings! If you haven’t read either, go do it right now! I’ll wait…

So, she’s totally amazing, right! See why I was so excited for another A. S. King book?! Well, I maybe got a little too excited. I  wrote this on her Facebook page:

“I can’t wait to read EVERYBODY SEE THE AUNTS!”

Yup! I did it. AUNTS not ANTS.

I.  So. Totally. Could. Have. Died!

I’m a teacher, spell-checker, proofreader, and super re-checker! I want someone to make me an app that lets you correct people on the internet with a red pen.  I secretly judge people who mix up there/their & your/you’re. I mean, what happened? Well, I happened. I oops-ed my way right into being a typo-queen!

A. S. King is my favorite author for a reason. She was so awesome about it. She laughed and teased me with a possible typo-sequel called EVERYBODY SEES THE UNCLES. Even better, she started a contest to give away an ARC (Advanced Reader Copy) of EVERYBODY SEES THE ANTS on her blog. It was inspired by the well meaning typos we all make and she even gave me a shout-out. (FIST PUMP!)

Check out the EVERYBODY SEES THE PANTS contest here:

Think up a funny typo-ish A. S. King book title and enter!

If you win, will you loan me your copy?!

Vampire Tuesday! The Most AWESOME day ever!

Today three of my favorite vampire books were released.

Bite Club by Rachel Caine, Hard Bitten by Chloe Neill, and Dead Reckoning by Charlaine Harris.

3! On. The. Same. Day!

Oh My Awesome!

Today is also the day the I bought my first iBook!

Vampire Tuesday Rocks!

New Books! YAY!

New Books! Yay! She screams as she quickly carries in the goods to hide before Schmoopy gets home!

Technically I fessed up the other day when I admitted to buying 3 books when I said I’d only buy 1. Really, I could blame it on Twitter. I keep reading about so many awesome books and I just have to have them. For the record, I have no willpower when it comes to books. I’m in love, I can’t say no, they call to me and I always answer. So really, it isn’t my fault. Anyone buying any of this? No? Just me buying books, huh?!

So, short story long…here’s what was waiting on my doorstep when I got home this evening. Now I’ll have to decide which one to read first!

where she went by Gayle Forman

Ooops, I did it again…

I have a small book problem. Ok, I lied. It is a HUGE book problem.  It has many facets, too.  So many, in fact, that they need a list:

  • I want to read just about everything!
  • I have serious vampire and zombie issues. I have to read them all!
  • I check out WAY too many books at the library. It is like how people must feel when they walk past a pet store. I just can’t leave them there, they need a good home!
  • I keep buying more books. I can’t help it. Sometimes the wait lists at the library are so long and I want it now (Veruca Salt, anyone!?).
  • I say I’m going to read this or than next, but then something just jumps out at me and I pick it up. Then that’s it…I’m reading it.
  • Being ADHD (really, like clinically, not like in the kidding kind of way) does not help this issue. I am currently listening to something in the car, have a book on my desk at work, have a book upstairs, and a book downstairs. I’m getting an iPad this weekend (YAY!) and I just know I’ll put a few books on that!

So, what’s the bottom line here? Why the rant?

I need to fess up:

I went to order one book today and got three (Oops, sorry Schmoopy! Didn’t mean to!). It is just so easy to click, add to cart, and check out! Darn internet!

I am trying to return some library books, but they look at me all cute and book-like, with their shiny covers and cute spines…I just can’t decide which ones to return without reading first. I know that I can check them out again, put them on a special list, whatever, but (go ahead and laugh) I don’t want them to feel bad. UGH!

Whew, I feel better now. I probably won’t change, but isn’t the first step in solving a problem admitting you have one?!

Did I mention that I love books? Well, I do!
