Last Wednesday night, Schmoopy took me on an awesome date! It was really quite EPIC!
We went to Decatur and ate dinner at Raging Burrito. I didn’t take a pic of my Monster Burrito, because I was starving and it was too good to wait.
Then we walked over to the Yogurt Tap for the best strawberry frozen yogurt on the whole planet. This stuff is freaking amazing!
Next we walked to The Decatur Library to see Austin Kleon speak (presented by the super amazing Georgia Center for the Book). I’m a huge fan of his work! He wrote two books that will forever be in my list of favorite reads: Newspaper Blackout and Steal Like an Artist.
I have to say that I was totally FanGirling when I saw him. My 8th grade students LOVE his books! Newspaper Blackout got kids who have NEVER been excited about writing EVER to write and write and write. It was good stuff, too! I wrote about it here. The ideas in Steal Like an Artist are not only super fun, but inspirational, too! I’ve been so inspired to create again since hearing Austin Kleon speak! Schoompy even loved it (he agreed to take me w/o having any idea what he was saying yes to-that, ladies and gentleman, is an awesome husband!). He left there just as excited me!
Of course, I got both of my books signed, a picture, and a poster for my classroom (for real life, I’m keeping the original at home and bringing in a copy to school–it’s that awesome!)
If you aren’t familiar with his work, you should check it out! You’ll love it! www.austinkleon.com
My pretty EPIC retweet from Austin Kleon (which also got me some major street cred with the kiddos!).
