Confessions of a Bad Blogger!

So, I’m going to admit it. I’ve been a bad blogger lately. No excuses. Really. I’m going to own this one 100%!

But, I haven’t just been lying around doing nothing all day & night. I’m not that horrible!

Here’s are a few pics of what I’ve been doing. Full update soon, for real life!

Tonight I went to Georgia Center for the Book with my awesome friend Jessica to see Sam Bracken & Echo Garrett talk about the awesome book about Sam’s life called My Orange Duffel Bag. They were both AMAZING!
I’m going to write more about this book soon, but needed it to be on your book love list immediately. This is a life changer!

We went to Yogurt Tap after (best frozen yogurt ever!). I had Nutella & Strawberry. It was amazing!

Oh, Insurgent! You really are freaking awesome!

Insurgent Bling! Freaking Awesome!

So, I have to admit that I was a bit confused when I started reading Insurgent! It was just too long since I had read Divergent! I took a quit time-out to refresh my memory of the Factions. A quick visit to the awesome Divergent Fans  site fixed it all! I love this site, BTW. It is so awesome & totally my Divergent go-to site! I adore the faction symbols in the header, too!

After that, I was good to go. It was funny, because my friend told me the same thing! We were both too excited (nosy) to slow down & reread Divergent before diving right in to Insurgent. I mean, you can’t really blame anyone for that, right?!

I’m loving Insurgent! It is so what I wanted it to be! I hope to finish by the end of the week!

What are you reading?

5 Blings! for Megan McCafferty’s THUMPED!

I loved Thumped!

5 Blings for Thumped!
Here’s what Schmoopy and I were reading on our flight to Chicago. We both finished on our books during the  flight home! Since I got this His & Hers idea after takeoff, he really couldn’t refuse my request *evil grin*

I was totally reluctant to read Thumped! I didn’t like Bumped, not one bit. I even threw it across the room when I finished the last page (yes, I put myself in time-out after that).

After reading Thumped, I see that I just didn’t get Bumped. I read it at a point of my life that wasn’t the best time to read a book about kids and babies and infertility and all that. I get that now. Let’s just call it bad timing on my part.

This week I read Thumped and really appreciated it. I laughed and cried in all the right places. I got the clever use of language and appreciated how Megan McCafferty created this super believable, yet terrifyingly realistic, world in the not too distant future where all of this could totally happen. I loved all the language and creative names of everything. So clever! She also expertly crafted a fun read that calls attention to serious issues. That is no easy task. I won’t get political or talk religion, but I do appreciate her attention to both and the way Bumped & Thumped will get some people thinking about things in a way they may not have before. To accomplish that in a way that is both nonthreatening & entertaining is super impressive! I also loved the familiar references to Princeton, NJ (very close to where I grew up). So fun!

I don’t think I need to re-read Bumped, but I do have a new appreciation and respect for both books now!
I give them both 5 Blings!

Get Bumped & Thumped for yourself at your local library, your favorite independent bookstore, or online by clicking the pictures below:

Cannot wait for Insurgent by the AMAZINGLY AWESOME @VeronicaRoth

May can’t come soon enough!

I just can’t wait to get my Bling on Insurgent!

I love, love, loved Veronica Roth’s Divergent. It was one of my favorite reads last year. Now the countdown is on for Insurgent. Some bloggers even have ARCs already. I’m a little jealous, I must admit. But, I do love that it isn’t that far away now!

Are there books that you just can’t wait to read? What are they?

Veronica Roth has a super cool countdown clock on her site: http://veronicarothbooks.blogspot.com/
If I could figure out how to get it to show up here, I totally would do that! So, be a dear and click over there, then come back here and imagine that super cool countdown widget surrounded by Bling. Thanks!

Oh wait, I think I did it! OMG! Go me!! WOOT!

The Slayer Chronicles: First Kill or Why Heather Brewer ROCKS!

5 Blings for First Kill!

I’m a huge Vlad fan! I totally LOVED all of Heather Brewer’s The Chronicles of Vladimir Tod books! It was super sad to read the last in the series.

But, as usual, Heather Brewer doesn’t disappoint her minions!

In The Slayer Chronicles, she tells the story from Joss McMillian & the Slayers’ point of view.

It doesn’t just work–it ROCKS!

So many times while reading First Kill I was like, “Oh, oh, I know…this is xyz from Vlad! Awesome!” And it was awesome! And the coolest thing is that you could start with Vlad or Joss and be equally as hooked! Have I mentioned how freaking cool this is? I mean, really, it is total author genius here! For real life!

OK, but what’s the big deal? Well, Joss is a regular kid who is about to go hang out with his awesome cousin for the summer. Then his sister gets killed. In the middle of the night. By a vampire! At the funeral, his creepy uncle tells him to swear that he’ll avenge her death. He swears. Fast forward a few years and we learn that, understandably, Joss and his parents have never recovered from the loss. Joss is ignored by his parents, who have just been coasting on auto-pilot since his sister’s murder. So when that creepy Uncle Abraham asks for Joss to spend the summer with him doing wilderness survival training, the whole McMillan family goes for it. It is in the mountains that he learns the truth behind the Slayer Society and begins his crazy & often cruel training. Through Joss, we learn the flip side. Not as  much vampires are so awesome, but more of a awww, poor Slayers kind of sympathy. But the way that Joss looks at the world with compassion, empathy, and hatred totally works. Come on, how many people can pull that off?

Bottom line: If you loved Vlad, you’ll love First Kill. If you haven’t met Vlad yet, then you can start with either series (but if you are impatient like me, go for Vlad first because that series has more books!).

Follow My Book Blog Friday by @parajunkee & @alisoncanread

Last week I had so much fun with this! I read so many great book-loving-blogs!

Yay for Parajunkee & Alison Can Read!

Now I’m back for more Follow Friday fun!

This week’s question is a tough one for me!

Q: If you had to spend eternity inside the pages of a book which book would you choose and why?

Wow! Just one? Boo!

My first two thoughts were Harry Potter & the world of Mortal Instruments! Both are amazing worlds full of endless depth & magic! Oh, how I long to be magical…for as long as I can remember, actually!

But to choose Harry or Jace…hmmmm. Tough call!

Both are magical, mysterious, and super awesome!

I may need to think on this for a while longer!

What book world would you choose?
