Dear Bully-Can’t Wait to Read This!

I have been waiting for this book! I am so excited to read it and share it with others!

Bravo to these authors who share their stories of bullies and how they survived!

I know these stories will help so many people!

Dear Bully Bling!

What I’ve Been Reading & Loving or The End of My Reading Slump!

I was in a reading slump this summer. I don’t know why–I usually read like crazy all summer.  It was hard to book blog when I wasn’t reading (duh!).

Thankfully, that is behind me now! I’ve been reading some amazing books (and a few that were just ok). Here’s a quick pic post of what I’ve been reading and loving lately! Check them out, they are all 5 Bling Books (well, not the WordPress Books).

Quite possibly the reason why I quit reading good books! Not too many Blings here!

Reviewed! Madly in Love with Michelle Leighton’s Series!

4 Bling Book!

Madly & Wolfhardt

I really am in love with Madly! (I’m not going to say I’m Mad about Madly…but I really want to!)

Michelle Leighton really got it right with her awesome mermaids. Yup, that’s right…mermaids! How awesome is that?!

I have to admit, I’ve been in quite the reading slump lately. I haven’t been crazy about much that I’ve read this summer. I think I was reading too much of the same thing. I was totally over reading the same stuff with different characters. Then, like in answer to a readers prayer, Madly came along. I totally got pulled into Madly and her world as soon as I started reading. That hasn’t been happening lately! I believe Madly’s world, her best friend Jersey, and the trouble with being a teenage mermaid who is also the future queen of the Mer.

I also loved the super hot Jackson/Madly/Aidan love story action. Madly is tied to Aiden. Jackson isn’t allowed. You can tell as soon as Jackson steps into the story that this forbidden super crush is going to be awesome & it doesn’t disappoint!

There are good guys, bad guys, mermaids, werewolves, and classic story telling-all of it is set to awesome.

I hope you check out the first two books of the Madly Series & visit Michelle’s blog to find out more about this great author! (She’s super fun, too, BTW!)

Mermaids. That is new & super exciting! Here’s the book info:

Madly is your average nearly eighteen year old girl—for a mermaid princess, that is.

Madly James is thoroughly enjoying her internship in Slumber when the unthinkable happens—there’s a prison break in Atlas, Madly’s home beneath the sea.   A traitor has set free eight Lore, the spirits of what humans know as fairy tales, and they are making their way to Slumber to awaken their descendants.

The first spirit to arrive is that of Ulrich Wolfhardt, a man that was once obsessed with wolves and a young maiden he would follow through the woods.  After a bite from a wolf, Wolfhardt’s obsession with the girl became an unnatural hunger and the young maiden’s grandmother cursed him with a fate worse than death.  And now he’s back…with a vengeance and a bite that can infect others as well.

Madly must learn the identity of Wolfhardt’s descendant and stop him before he kills again and spreads his curse across the earth.  But the only person strong enough to help Madly is Jackson, the Sentinel who vowed to protect her and the one person capable of breaking her heart.  Can Madly resist forbidden love long enough to save the world from Wolfhardt?  Or will she have to sacrifice her heart and her destiny to save the ones she loves?

For the love of magic!

When I was very small, I remember getting in trouble quite often for squinting my eyes like Jeanie and wrinkling up my nose like Samantha to zap or change something (my mom was a likely target, I must admit). I have always wanted to be magical-to have witch powers. Each year on my birthday, and sometimes even still, I wonder if this is the year when my magic will find me.

Tomorrow I’ll go see the final Harry Potter movie (too grumpy when I’m tired to hit the midnight showing & even though he’ll never admit it, Schmoopy really wants to see it, too!). For me, it is that magic that I’ve always wanted, but in a very real way.

I love magic. I love HP! If that makes me a dork, a dreamer, a geek, or a rock star…well, I just don’t care. I love it and I’m proud and thankful to have grown with these books and films so near to my heart and so real in my imagination.

Swamplandia! by Karen Russell totally ROCKS!

I am LOVING this strange & beautiful story from Karen Russell. I can’t really describe it yet, other than to tell you that there is a sister who loves dead people, a brother who runs away to join the World of Darkness, and a girl who wants to become a champion alligator wrestler just like her dearly departed mom. Dad and Grandpa are a total mess, too.

I’m am totally 100% sure that my love for this unusually odd book grows with every unusual page I turn.

Learning & Failing-not giving up!

I decided to switch to & to use HostGator to host my blog. Blah, blah, who cares-you may say. I kinda thought that, too. I was wrong. There is A WHOLE FREAKING LOT to learn. I’m not a quitter, so I will figure it out! I will be at the library tomorrow doing some research & reading many of the awesome blogs of those who have gone before me.
Why am I telling you this? Two reasons:
1. I really like book blogging-it is super fun, healing, & the other book bloggers feel like old friends already. It is a community that feels like home to me.
2. I am seriously in love with reading & the power of good books. Connecting people and books is worth a huge learning curve and a lot of frustration!

The bottom line: I haven’t been posting a lot. I have been learning a lot. I’m still reading all the time. Until I get a better hold on it all, find me on Twitter @ohmandee. That I can do! 🙂

Awesome Contest from A. S. King or True Confessions of a Typo-Queen!

I really should know better, but I really should a lot of things…

Yesterday, I got super excited about the upcoming release of the new A. S. King book EVERYBODY SEES THE ANTS, which comes out on October 3.              A. S. King really is my favorite YA author. I wanted her to know how excited I was! She wrote the amazing THE DUST OF 100 DOGS and PLEASE IGNORE VERA DIETZ. Both are totally worthy of all 5 Blings! If you haven’t read either, go do it right now! I’ll wait…

So, she’s totally amazing, right! See why I was so excited for another A. S. King book?! Well, I maybe got a little too excited. I  wrote this on her Facebook page:

“I can’t wait to read EVERYBODY SEE THE AUNTS!”

Yup! I did it. AUNTS not ANTS.

I.  So. Totally. Could. Have. Died!

I’m a teacher, spell-checker, proofreader, and super re-checker! I want someone to make me an app that lets you correct people on the internet with a red pen.  I secretly judge people who mix up there/their & your/you’re. I mean, what happened? Well, I happened. I oops-ed my way right into being a typo-queen!

A. S. King is my favorite author for a reason. She was so awesome about it. She laughed and teased me with a possible typo-sequel called EVERYBODY SEES THE UNCLES. Even better, she started a contest to give away an ARC (Advanced Reader Copy) of EVERYBODY SEES THE ANTS on her blog. It was inspired by the well meaning typos we all make and she even gave me a shout-out. (FIST PUMP!)

Check out the EVERYBODY SEES THE PANTS contest here:

Think up a funny typo-ish A. S. King book title and enter!

If you win, will you loan me your copy?!

Look What I Made!

Found out about this cool app Wordfoto while playing on Twitter! So fun!

Not totally insane! @CarrieRyan’s HARE MOON is real!

So, I totally thought that the 3rd in the FOREST OF HANDS AND TEETH series was going to be about Sister Tabitha. I was kind of shocked when I started reading and it wasn’t. Then I couldn’t figure out why I thought that. But, today, I got my answer. I was reading the AWESOME Carrie Ryan’s blog and found out that I wasn’t totally insane. She wrote a prequel story to the series and it is about Sister Tabitha as a teen. It’s called HARE MOON. It is available as an ebook and I’m going to get it ASAP. Yay for the story and another Yay for me not being totally crazy (at least not right at this second!).
